Orange hair tips

Around two months ago I decided that I needed a little hair change - as I always do - dyed my hair orange and chopped off my long bangs. It's been fun, but as usual I'm about to go back to my lovely pastels. There's just one more 80's work look involving crimped hair and Whitney Houston makeup that must happen next week before getting back to basics. So, I thought I would share my orange hair tips before saying goodbye.

Orange is fun. Constant redying, is not. I started out with Direction's Apricot which looked cool, but lasted approximately one hair wash. Do not recommend. Next I mixed Direction's Mandarin with a tiny blop of Bright Daffodil. Cool color, better longevity, pretty bad fading. Boo. However, the orange that has worked best for me has been Napalm Orange from Special Effects. The color starts out a dark, neon red-ish orange that almost hurts to look at (picture six) and fades into a nice, intense yellow based orange (picture five) that after five hair washes still doesn't need any touching up. Very pleased with Special Effects as always and will keep using their hair dyes for my next adventure. Talking about that, please say a little prayer to the hair gods for me so my hair will go blonde without any nasty stains when I bleach it next week..

DIY | Flintstones bone necklace

Here's a fun, little DIY project that I wanted to share with you guys. I've always had a thing for The Flintstones and that whole cavewoman look, especially if it's in a more cartoon-ish and not so serious way. Kinda like Jeremy Scott's SS10 collection, which was just perfect. Anyway, something about brown beads and nylon string kinda offends me, so here's a quick DIY on how to turn cheap halloween jewelry into actual, wearable accessories (if you're into this sort of style, of course!)

What you will need:
Bone jewelry set
Silver chain necklace
Black magic marker

Remove the nylon string from the face of earth and paint the brown beads black with your magic marker. They will need to dry for a bit, otherwise they can stain the plastic bones. And well, your fingers. I used a bobby pin to hold the beads so my hands wouldn't get all black and magic marker-y. 

Arrange the bones and the beads nicely - meaning turn the bones the right way, so the ''made in China'' logo won't show, since this was obviously too big a job for the manufacturer to handle themselves - and also take one long bone from one of the bracelets that comes with the jewelry set and put in on the chain.

And there you have it. Your very own, very fancy bone necklace. Perfect for.. Well, people who's into kitchy things and may or may not be cavewoman/stoneage/Flintstones obsessed. I'm saving the rest of the extra bones for future DIY's and also use the earrings that come with the set for everyday wear - all I did to those was changing them from clip-on earrings to having a hook. So much more comfortable now that they don't squeeze my poor ears.

I may or may not have gone a bit overboard with my eBay and etsy shopping lately, but I have very valid excuses for once. Also it's been forever since I did one of these eBay shopping updates, so I thought now would be a good time to start again. I've tried to link to everything, but since some of these items - like the Jeffrey Campbell shoes and Wildfox clothing - were one of a kind items I won, I've just linked you guys to the specific sellers.

I've officially banned myself from shopping until next month, cause we really just can't risk becoming eBay addicts, right? So my watch-list is getting longer and longer and in reality I should just log off the internet so I won't be tempted. Did you guys find any interesting treasures on eBay lately?

Gold glitter nails for the cheap

When you're trying to save up for a new apartment, occasional trips to the nail salon really aren't very realistic, and sometimes just wearing plain nail polish get's boring. It's in times of boredom you must turn to nail stickers, glitter and fun ways to make your nails look personal.

I've been very into glitter dipped nails lately so I decided to try it out myself. It takes no time and is super affordable. First step is to apply Max Factor's Marshmallow nail polish on your entire nail, then quickly before it dries sprinkle some Stargazer gold glitter from eBay on the tip of your nail, wait for it to dry, brush excess glitter off and finish with a clear topcoat! And you're done!

I have been working on this vest for a while whenever I was bored and I'm really pleased with the result! It's perfect for spring and summer and to spice up boring outfits, and DIY projects like these are fun to do because you make personal items that only you have. I've also been wearing my hair in braids a lot lately like I seem to do every summer, so I will have a new video up about it next week ♥

Small DIY home decoration idea

A few weeks back I had some time to kill while waiting for the bus and decided to spend it in a cute little secondhand shop where I found this picturebook on how to do flower decorations. It had loads of pretty photos and I decided to make it into a DIY home decor project - do you guys remember my vintage barbie photos? I want to do something similar with these photos for my new apartment. I love doing kitchy little projects like this, since it's a lot more personal and cheap than actually buying pre-made stuff for your walls! Now I just need more frames that I can paint mint green.

Homemade avocado facemask

Tonight we had a lovely avocado salad for dinner and since there were a few avocados left I decided to make a homemade facemask out of them - I always love spending sundays without plans doing something nice to pamper myself like long baths, facemasks, hairtreatments and so on. This is super easy to do and doesn't cost a lot, so I just wanted to share it with you guys. Oh and obviously a lovely no-makeup-green-shit-on-ma-face-photo as well!

All you need is 1 avocado, a few spoons of plain yoghurt and a little honey.
Mash the avocado with a fork, add the yoghurt and honey and mix it together until it gets sort of sticky, then remove all makeup from your face, rinse with hot water and just dry off your face with a towel. Leave the facemask on for about and hour and then rinse it off and your face will feel wonderful and refreshed! There's a lot of wonderful vitamins and fibers in avocados and I love that this is super affordable.

You could also switch up the ingredients a bit and add bananas or use hot water instead of plain yoghurt - it's all up to you ♥

Let the light in.

I've been feeling very crafty lately and I've been meaning to paint our bathroom window for a while so I went down to my local artshop today and grabbed a white spraypaint. I'm very happy with it, the whole bathroom looks a lot bigger and it's much lighter now. Hurray for being a handywoman and taking matters into your own hands.

My DIY vintage barbie project.

I am very picky with what putting up on my walls and in my apartment, and I have spent a few months trying to decide what the accent colors should be. So I went with baby pink and might add in some lavender later on, but yesterday I went out and got these very beautiful vintage frames and printed out pictures of old Barbie dolls and put them in. I like to print out my own pictures to make it look more personal and I have blogged about projects like this before.

Basically I just spray painted the frames with a light pink paint, put in my pictures the way I wanted and they are now ready to be hung up. I think it will look so cute, now I just need my boyfriend to feel the same way!

DIY blonde to pink ombre hair.

So since I'm giving my hair a rest of extensions and I have quite a lot of events coming up, I decided to go with some blonde to pastel pink ombre extensions that can easily be put into a ponytail. It was pretty easy to do and not very time consuming so here is what I did.

1. Take a bunch of wefts, come them through and spray some water on them

2. Make sure the hair is towel dry and brushed through

3. Mix some drugstore bleach, shampoo, conditioner and a little water

4. Apply to the extensions on both sides and leave the ends free

5. Wrap in a plastic bag + towel until they are light blonde

6. Wash them, let them sit with conditoner on, wash again and tone if you need to

If your extensions are in a really bad condition I probably wouldn't suggest this though.

Face of yesterday.

I cut the arms of my sheer ruffle Asos shirt that I mentioned in my haul video not long ago, paired it up with this schoolgirl like cardigan with sequin pockets, a black highwaisted skirt and dotted tights from H&M. I also wore a cross necklace from my best friend, vintage earrings and had my hair in a messy fishtail braid.

2012 Cavewoman.



Ever since I saw Jeremy Scott's 2010 summer collection I have been wanting a huge bone hair piece, and as I'm visiting my grandmother this weekend - she has a sewingmachine - I decided to make one myself! It's basically just like a stuffed teddy bear so it's pretty light to wear on the head and it looks super cute.

I have the perfect outfit and hairdo to go with this bone as soon as I get home, but today I'm wearing it with a black, stropless minidress in velour and black patent leather pumps.

What do you guys think about the cavewoman look, and do you like the Jeremy Scott collection?

Colorful rocks.

I'm simply in love with the colors on these pictures, the stones reminds me of mermaids and fairytales, and as a kid I used to collect stones like these. I think a DIY project might be coming up, cause this could seriously become amazing jewelry. It's just so gorgeous.
